Overview and League Structure

With the season right around the corner, here is a brief description of how the league is formatted as well as what needs to be done to sign your team up for the Inaugural Dauntless Athletic Blood Bowl league.

Overview

The Dauntless Athletic League is a Blood Bowl league based off of the National Football League in American sports. As such the league will be broken into 4 divisions of either 3/4/5 teams based off the number of players we have join. (Currently sitting between 12-20 coaches for the 1st season.)

This league will be different than the European Soccer style league and most Blood Bowl online leagues in where typically a regulation style format is played, typically consisting of a premier division and secondary division which are self-contained among themselves as effectively separate leagues in a round robin format. As such only the teams from the top division may contend for the league title (with the top finishers in the lower division being promoted upward, and the worst teams from the premier division being regulated down.

League Structure and the Regular Season

The Dauntless Athletic League (also referred to as the DAL) will allow for all teams to be able to compete for the championship every season. The teams are divided into 4 divisions of equal rank. To allow this to happen, the League is set up as a "Ladder/Spin" league within the Blood Bowl game. Meaning that because we arent utilizing the narrow round robin format (in which teams from different divisions could never possibly meet), you must allow for the game application to "spin" while searching for a game. (I.e find your foe in matchmaking). As such, please make sure your game isnt schedule the same time as another pair's game to avoid a mis-pairing.

Each season of the DAL is composed of 9-10 games (depending on the total number of players.)

The Leagues schedule will be posted under the SCHEDULE link from the league's home page at the start of each season.

Each team will be scheduled based off from their results from the previous season. (Season one will be using a seeding selection process for the initial schedule and division make up.)

Each season, a team's opponents are composed of the following.

(Example: 12 team league / 3 team divisions / 10 Game Schedule)

Each divisional rivals twice each. (4 Games)

A seasonal rotating opposing division. (4 Games)

Same seeded teams as your own from the remaining 2 divisions. ( 2 Games )

At the end of 10 games the league will progress to the play-offs based off the seasonal standings.

Standings

The DAL does not use the in-game standing system to determine the standing of each team (though the in-game may mirror the DAL standings at times). Instead all DAL standings are tracked through the league website by division. Match results and statistics are recorded on the website after each match and/or the end of each play week – with standings posted at the beginning of each week.

The standing of a team is relative to their total points earned through DAL League play. The point system is as follows:

  • Game worth max of 7 points

  • Winner of the a game gets 5 points and the losing side 1 point.

  • If a game is won by a margin greater than 2 scores, then the winning side receives 1 additional point.

  • Draws worth 3 points per team.

  • Any team that inflicts 3 or more casualties it gains 1 additional point.

Divisional standings determine the seeding for the playoffs.

*In a 12 team league, only the divisional winners advance to the play-offs.

*In a league of 16 teams or more, the 4 divisional leaders advance to the play-offs as well as the two remaining teams with the highest point totals as wild cards. Also while in the expanded format, the top two teams of the regular season would receive a bye the first round of the play-offs.

* Note*

The In-Game standings will be referred as the Season's Power Rankings, and will be utilized in regards to post season events, including the draft and training camps.

TIE BREAKERS

If two or more teams are tied in total points, the tie is broken using the following criteria, in order:

  • Most wins

  • Head-to-Head (best W-L-D record between clubs)

  • Touchdowns + Casualties.

Post Season

After the regular season ends, the teams whom finished in the top of their respective divisions (along with wildcard teams if applicable) participate in a single elimination knockout bracket to decide the league champion. The winner of the Play-Off's is the Dauntless Athletic League's Champion for that season and may claim all the bragging rights afforded with it!

Off-Season

After each season Dauntless Athletic League enters the Off-Season. The Off-Season is the period between seasons in where the Salary cap for the following season is declared, and time teams may trade players Via Free Agency, receive draft picks, and host training camps.
Please see the Resource pages for information on Off-Season options.
