Free Agency

The Market Place, and Free Agency.

The Marketplace is an all-new feature in Blood Bowl 2. It will allow you to buy or sell Blood Bowl players from, and to other coaches in multiplayer. This new mechanic in Blood Bowl 2 has two main goals: first, to deepen the interactions between coaches; and second, to open brand new opportunities for them to develop their teams. That said, only single race teams may use the marketplace

Now how will it all work?

Non-Mixed teams

The Marketplace will be open during the leagues’ transfer windows / Free Agency period.

The Free Agency Period is during the off season for the Dauntless Athletic League and again after week 5.

During this periods, you will be able to put up for sale one (or more) of your players, asking for whatever in trade with another team in terms of money. (minimum being the base price of that player).

Other coaches will then be able to put up their offers. Highest bid will always be visible to everyone, letting you try and outbid in order to win the auction! All offers will be done using one of your team’s Gold treasury, so there is a reason to hang on to some gold!

Now, that was for the selling part! If what you’re looking to buy, you’ll be able to browse through the current players up for sale, and if you’re picky about who you want to buy, you’ll be able to filter the specific kind of player you want, and you’ll be presented the offers who fit the best your requirements.

You might also be interested in a specific player who hasn’t been put up for sale by the owner? Well, you’ll be able to send private offers to the coach who owns him… Just be prepared to make an offer that he can’t possibly refuse!

Mixed Teams

Mixed teams sadly aren't allowed to use Market Place in the current iteration of Blood Bowl 2. As such to participate in Free agency, mixed teams may trade players with one another at the end of each season, up till the 4th week of the season. To participate, trading coaches must first belong to the same mixed team alliance, and agree on trading whichever current players rights to another team. Once a trade has been established, the trading teams must cut from their roster whatever positional that they are trading, and then may hire a player from the roster of their trading partner. The hired player must be named the same as the player cut from the trading partner's team, and must be legal per the two rules governing Free Agency found below.

All trade intentions must be submitted to the league commissioner prior to the trade to ensure that league regulations are intact.

Will there be restrictions to the system?

Yes. All teams in the Dauntless Athletic League, while able to be built with the Mixed Race team options, are all to be created with a single team race in practice.

(For example a player may create an Orc Team using the Fast East Association team rules but staying to the Orc roster's positional players.)

As such Free Agency will be governed by the following two rules.

Foreign Player Trade Cap

The DAL limits the alliance-race players for each team by utilizing a secondary Salary Cap (Based upon team value) of which the non race players of each team's salary MUST be under at the onset of each season.

In the "Era" based cycles of the DAL, the Foreign player cap is always $250,000 for the first season, and 20% of the current total salary cap for season's 2 and 3.

So an Orc team, may have any combination of allowed players under their mixed race alliance and my hire them away from teams in the free agency market accordingly.. as long as the team has a trading partner. Teams may never have start a season with the recalculated salaries of players exceeding that of the foreign player cap.

Team Rights

Coaches are granted exclusive rights to the Team Roster that they pick upon their team selection into the league. While multiple coaches may select the same race, ONLY those coaches my draft players from those races when building a team and hiring players regardless of the Mixed Race team rules we are using when building our teams. The Mixed Race team rules are exclusively ONLY to open up the possibility to trade players of different races and alike like a real sports league in free agency. Even so, you will only be allowed to hire players of the races allowed by your chosen "Mixed Race Team Alliance".

In addition, players may trade their allotted "Training Camp" games as players as an additional option to expand trade between teams.

That said, teams may ONLY have up to their original team positional allotment; regardless if the players in question still play for your team.

Meaning, if you are playing the Wood Elves and you trade both your War Dancers away, you are not allowed to hire another War Dancer until either of the original players or no longer in the league, so be careful as every position is valuable to forge the perfect team.

This rule exists to prevent positional player "farming" by coaches, and alike and flooding the league with 20 Human Blitzers or whatever.

*The Exceptions to this rule are the Draft and unrestricted free agents. If you coach a team that has been awarded a draft pick, you may hire a player from within your Mixed Race Alliance without permission from the Coaches whom retain the rights to those player types, and whose roster limitations are unaffected by the drafted players introduction into the league.

Unrestricted Free Agents

Each team is allowed one position's player rights as a unrestricted free agent. This rule exists to allow mixed teams to trade away one player types rights away to another team, and still permit the team all of their postionals as capped by their racial restrictions. For example, the Westeros Wanderers could trade away a 5th human blitzer's rights to be hired by another team, and still be able to carry their Human team allotment of 4 blitzers on their roster. Each team is allowed just one Unrestricted Free Agent and once traded, they may not use the Unrestricted Free Agent option again till the original player traded is killed or cut from his roster.

Trading

The following are the rules and procedures when utilizing trading in the Dauntless Athletic League.

Each team has available for trade the following.

1. Every positional's rights on from their race. (4 blitzers, 4 catchers, etc)

2. 1 unrestricted Free Agent. (5th blitzer, when you are carrying 4)

3. Training Camp games. (Double income, and 2 MVPs must be traded before you use them yourself (obviously))

4. Draft position or draft picks.

Procedures and Guidelines

1. Notify the league commissioner of the trade.

You may only trade within your alliance. If you would like to change your racial alliance during the off season, notify the league commissioner before conducting in any trades. (The team will have to be recreated within the custom team rules.)

2. Find a trade partners and agree on players to be traded. Open a PM chat with both your trade partner and the league commish for discussion of the trade. League Commish is there only to insure that no disagreements occur later.

3. If the trade is agreed upon, cut the positional whose right are being traded, and hire the positional type that is being traded for. If the Foreign player cap is not in danger of being exceeded by either team, the coaches may simply hire the new players. It is at this stage where the league commish will know to set up a training camp game with a new coach, or if a coach used up his Unrestricted Free agent slot.

4. Trade complete, make more trades or enter your training camp games to prepare for the following season!

Final Reminder on the restrictions.. (Short Version)

1. You may never have more than 3 players from any other race on your team at one time. (Rule of Three).

2. While the Unrestricted Free Agent is on the roster of the trade partner, you are not permitted to use the unrestricted free agent rule to make another trade.

3. Positional players rights that are traded (if someone wanted to develop their own blitzer for example) follow the same rule as unrestricted free agents. If you trade your 2nd thrower away, you are not permitted to hire another one, unless the players rights you traded away is released from the roster or killed in some manner.

4. Notify your trade partners if the players rights you traded for is killed or cut from your roster, so they can have the option to add or trade that positional's rights back.

**This still doesn't allow you to hire back the position you traded away. Only the release or death of the player that you traded, returns the positional allotment back to you.

A spreadsheet of trades will be made available for all active and past trades, and will be posted to the website at the start of the off season.
